Wooly and Fiery's Fathers' Day

This poem is dedicated to my Father, for being a funny and a very loving person. Love you Papa!

Hi! As you saw the title, this one's a sequel to my earlier story of Wooly Doo Dee and Fiery. Please do review this sequel in the comments.

Wooly and Fiery's Fathers' Day

Fiery Doo Dee Bright was Wooly’s wife
Who had the nightmare of her life.
Tomorrow would be Father’s Day,
Always on June’s third Sunday.
Fiery was always fierce and with might,
But she had a worrisome fright,
Right in the middle of the night.
So she woke up her poor flunky,
‘Cause she gotta get something for her father Funky.

Sleep deprived Wooly rubbed his eyes,
This wasn’t nice!
He shook his weary head,
And said,
“Bibelots and baubles,
Gimcracks and knick-knacks,
Anything would do this year,
Your daddy ain’t so much a dear.
You can gift him crummy things like:
White mice, white lies, white rice,
gamblin’ dice, my hair lice, hair dyes,
pesterin’ flies, pants not his size,
coffee with ice, apple pies, old bow ties…”

Fiery was furiously fuming with flames,
She called Wooly some unkind names.
Shrieked she, “Shut up you lazy monkey,
And get something for my father Funky!”

Wooly coolly replied,
“In the middle of the night the market ain’t open,
And Fiery darlin’, I was hopin’
That you must’ve already bought something,
Don’t worry though,
You can dance and you can sing.”

Just then an idea struck Fiery’s head,
She quickly got outta bed,
And said, “A poem I’ll write
For my father Funky Bright,
And you’ll help me Wooly Doo Dee,
For you can write some poetry!”
And Fiery twirled and danced with glee.

Wooly was sleepy, but he loved Fiery,
So he took out his diary
And a poem together they started to write,
For dear father Funky Bright.
They wrote and wrote ‘til the crack of dawn,
‘Til their poem was great and long,
And they both sleepily yawned.

Fiery invited father Funky Bright,
Who rode his horse just like a knight,
And slung a great gun by his side.
He opened his arms really wide,
And hugged his daughter very tight.

Said he,
“Fiery! It’s been ages!
And I’ve been lookin’ at some old pages
With the scribbles you had done,
Together we had so much fun!
The imprints of your little hands on that wall,
And your shaggy old ball
Now you’ve grown, you were so small!
And while looking at your old toys,
I must say, it’s been a life with joys!
Forgive me if I was ever too rough,
I had done that to make you tough.
So it’s you, Fiery, who rules,
And straightens out all those fools.
Fiery, I really love you a lot,
And I hope you didn’t forget the things I’ve taught.”

Fiery replied,
“Yes father, sometimes you were mean
But you brought me up just like a queen.
And I never forgot anything you ever said,
Not even those funny stories you told me in bed.
Father, you don’t need to worry about me,
I can look after myself and Wooly Doo Dee.
I love you too, father dear,
And now that you’re here,
It’s Father’s Day, so let’s cheer!”

Fiery uncovered the cake and candles were lit,
The cake was cut by Father,
Who praised Fiery for it.
Now came the part when Fiery had to give her present,
So she gifted the piece of poetry
Father said the poem was funny and pleasant,
He praised Fiery and Wooly Doo Dee.

Said father, “This poem is the collection of love in words,
You have given me an irreplaceable gift,
It is like the musical song of birds,
And this poem immensely lifts my spirits!
Thank you Fiery and Wooly Doo Dee,
For giving me this immeasurable love and a sweet memory.
And now, I must go with the setting of the sun,
This day with you has been so much fun
I promise that I’ll visit once more!”
With that, he hugged Fiery at the door.

Fiery and Wooly bid farewell,
And went to bed satisfied.
But an important lesson I must tell,
Don’t think of a gift or a poem at midnight,
For you are neither Wooly, nor Fiery Bright.
So prepare your gift in advance,
‘Cause you can’t take any chance!
And though you all are gems of the Earth,
Not all are poets by birth.
So whenever there’s an occasion,
Or a great celebration,
You must have your gift ready,
You can’t always gift a teddy!
