Stardust, and Playing Chess with You

Stardust, and Playing Chess with You

They say we're stardust.
I imagine stars and galaxies
nebulizing into dazzling clouds.

I see your sturdy hands,
holding that black knight,
as we play chess
in afternoon sunshine,
in my ordinary balcony
in an ordinary city
on an ordinary Wednesday.

I like you, and I'm gazing
at you, the way onismic earthlings gaze at galaxies.

Glistening sweat
trickles down your face,
to your neck,
as you concentrate hard
for your next move.

You like me too, and glance
at me with a wide grin.
(is my stare that evident?)

We both smile and titter.

Before we realize it,
Afternoon has morphed into twilight,
and the game ends
in me
and you
holding a chess piece
together,
our fingers entwined.

Now I believe in stardust.
